Christopher Anton Rea is an English blues and rock singer, songwriter and guitarist. Born and raised in Middlesbrough, he is of Italian and Irish descent. He is known for his exceptionally hoarse voice and for playing slide guitar, which has been described by Guinness Rockopedia as a "pebble guitarist". After learning to play the guitar relatively late, a brief stint in a local band led him to embark on a solo career in 1978. Louder magazine called Rea "the last rock survivor", thanks to his recovery from a number of serious illnesses. He has produced 25 solo albums, including some from his late blues era - like Blue Guitars - featuring multiple records. British Hit Singles & Albums said Rea was "one of UK's most popular singers and musicians of the late 1980s" and "was a big European star by the time he finally reached the Top 10.
