Kevin Alexander Leon, known professionally as Kevin de León, is an American politician who has served as Commissioner of the Los Angeles City Council of District 14 since 2020. As a member of the Democratic Party, he was previously the 50th interim chairman of the California State Senate from October 15, 2014 to March 21, 2018. As a member of the Latin American Legislative Group in California, he is the first Hispanic person to hold a position more than 130 years old. He represents the 24th Senate District, covering downtown and east Los Angeles, from 2014 to 2018; That year, De León launched an unsuccessful campaign against a senior US senator from California, Dianne Feinstein. He represented the 22nd District of the State Senate from 2010 to 2014. Prior to his election to the California State Senate, De León served in the California State Parliament, representing the 45th District of the State. State Assembly from 2006 to 2010.
