Khabib Nurmagomedov is a Russian professional mixed martial arts fighter. He is of Avar heritage. The Avars are a North-Eastern Caucasian ethnicity, and one of the prominent ethnic groups in the Russian Republic of Dagestan. Khabib is a devout Muslim.

Nurmagomedov trained extensively in wrestling and sambo from an early age. His home country of Dagestan has produced a disproportionate number of Olympic gold medalists in the sport of wrestling.

Khabib is married, and has two children.
