Can you define, in your own words, what a “vision board” is and why you use it?

A vision board is a collection of your personal dreams, goals, and desires that are well thought out and put together on a board (cork board) or placed somewhere you can SEE every day to remind you of what to focus on. You use it to manifest your dreams into reality and more importantly, I believe it helps you FOCUS on what you really want in life. It’s not the vision board that works, it’s the clear vision and all the other things you must do to make your visions a reality.

Can you give an example of how using a vision board helped accomplish your goals?

It helps me tremendously — especially with staying focused. It’s very easy to just go through the days not staying focused on what your heart desires are. By having a vision board I have a reminder of what I want and more importantly, WHY I wanted it. It kept me from being distracted — I inadvertently started to do things to support my goals. I looked at it every morning when I drink my coffee and still do.

What was something on your vision board that came true?

When I first knew I wanted to be an entrepreneur and start my own business I made my first vision board. I was 23 and living paycheck to paycheck. I put together my first board, and wrote myself out a check for $1 million. I also put on the board the way I wanted to feel by accomplishing my goals, as well as places I wanted to travel. It didn’t happen overnight, but I became my company’s youngest millionaire by the age of 26.

What advice would you give to people who hope to become influencers/entrepreneurs and how can a vision board help accomplish these goals?

I would say, first off, congratulations on thinking differently. I’m already proud of you. But let’s get real here: in order to create something out of nothing, or build something of your own, it’s going to take some real focused attention and effort.

Inevitably, there will be HARD days. Days when you don’t believe in yourself, your goals, your dreams, etc. Let a vision board remind you of what you really want. I would take some time to “brain dump”, take a piece of paper and write out everything you want and why. Get clear about what you actually want. Satisfaction comes when we are living in integrity with what really matters to us. Then find articles, photos, and notes that support your ambitions. Put your board together; I’d recommend having a daily practice of staring at it. You will be selling your dream to yourself daily
